Peer Support Program
A Student-Led Approach to Wellbeing
Each year in Term 2, our Year 6 students are invited ot step into leadership roles as Peer Leaders, guiding younger students through our whole-school Peer Support Program. In small, multi-aged groups, students explore meaningful topics such as resilience, belonging and responsibility - devleopming the skills that support wellbeing for life.
This nationally recognised program provides a safe, nurturing space for students to connect, grow and shape the culture of our school community. Guided by structureed weekly sessions, students learn to support one another with empathy, courage and care.
The program centres around four key pillars of wellbing:
Resilience: Facing challenges with strngth ane flexibility
Sense of Self: Nuturing confidence and self-worth
Connectedness - Building trust, empathy and community
Responsibility: Leading with integrity and care.
Through shared experiences, story and reflection, the Peer Support Progam builds emotional literacy, leadership and collaboration, deepening the connections between students across year levels. Working in partnership with teachers and families, the program also develops a shared language that helps children navigate emotions, relationships, and everyday challenges with thoughfulness and understanding.
For our Year 6 students, it's a powerful opportunity to lead with empathy. For younger students, it's a safe and supportive space to feel seen, included and uplifted. Together, they shape the kind of culture we strive for at Parklands School - one grounded in kindness, respect and community.
