Service Learning
Connecting Classroom To Community
At Parklands School, students regularly engage in meaningful service activities that address community needs.
Whether it be working alongside our Seniors and Elders, contributing to Citizen Science projects, planting trees, making blankets or contributing to Foodbank, our students can learn concepts at school and apply them in real world situations.

Juniper Project
Our Preprimary class has made meaningful connections with the community at Juniper Aged Care centre, making regular visits and working alongside Senior residents to build valuable inter-generational relationships and find joy in friendship and care.

Snake-Necked Turtle Citizen Science Project
Our Year 4 class has become part of an important citizen science project that tracks and cares for the Snake-necked turtles who reside nearby at Weerleera Park. Our students monitor the wildlife, water quality and ecosystems and use a tracking app to help conserve this precious wildlife resource that lives and breeds on our school’s doorstep.

Year 3 Refugee Project
Our year 3 students engaged in a project of work investigating the experience or Refugees. They participated in project work to develop an understanding of problems faced by displaced persons and they raised awareness by conducting a recycled clothing fundraiser. In this way our students learn about global issues that affect us all, brainstorm and contribute to solutions, in an age appropriate and supported way.
