Nature Is Our Classroom

Where children are grounded and free to grow

At Parklands School, we learn in, with, and from nature. Whether students are adventuring at Bush School or feeling the simple joys that come from going barefoot on the school grounds, nature is our trusted teacher and a daily part of their journey.

Our students are encouraged to slow down, look closely, and connect with nature. Through these programs, our students build resilience, responsibility and reflection through real experiences that shape how they see the world and their place in it.

Lake Weerlara

Just a short walk from our gates, Lake Weerlara is a place where students roll up their sleeves to actively care for the environment. From planting native trees to monitoring turtle activity and working alongside local trackers to protect nesting sites (including those that appear on our own school grounds), students learn that every action makes a difference. They have also taken part in Clean Up Australia Day, helping to restore and preserve the lake’s natural habitat.

Through these hands-on experiences, students develop a deep connection with Country, gain an understanding of how their efforts protect the wider ecosystem, and build lasting respect for the wildlife and environment around them.

Surfing & Ocean Awareness Program

In term one, our Year 5/6 students head down to Middleton Beach every week to surf with Mez and Tash from Due South Surfing Academy, for our Surfing and Ocean Awareness program that supports their physical wellbeing, environmental care, and personal growth.

Through practical surf skills, ocean safety education, and positive mindset coaching, students learn to read the waves, paddle, stand with confidence, build resilience and an appreciation for the natural world.

Each year in Term 3, our Kindy and Year 2 students buddy up and spend a full day each week immersed in nature at Limeburners Grove. In this living classroom, they explore, discover, and connect with nature, as they build resilience, curiosity, and friendships.
