Being a creative person who enjoys bringing out the best in people, being a primary school teacher was a natural fit for me. My career began back in 2004, teaching in Catholic schools across Perth until eventually feeling the call to the country and coming to Albany several years ago. I found my way to Parklands as I was attracted to their strong sense of community and holistic approach to learning. Being a teacher who enjoys running thematic programs that integrate across the curriculum, I felt Parklands was the perfect place for me to create fun and exciting learning for all students.
In and out of the classroom, I try to model all the school values, but none are more important than kindness. I have often said to my classes that if you can be one thing in your life, be kind. I always do my best each day to be kind to each and every student on a personal level and encourage them to show the same kindness to each other. I’ve managed to live a relatively exciting life; whether is being kissed by a Pope, hanging out with Jackie Chan in Hong Kong, being a published author or directing a play that I have written, I try to live each day to its fullest. The greatest excitement I get as a teacher is when a student completes a task or an assessment to a personal best level or exceeds a previous best, it makes me realise the difference we can make as teachers and makes me proud to be one.
