Joanna Thiel

Principal

Holistic Education in a Vibrant, Nurturing Community - the mission that attracted me to Parklands has kept me here, as a teacher and now as Principal. As a proud Parklands parent, when my girls graduated - first from Parklands and then from high school - I became inspired to help sustain the Parklands philosophy for generations to come.

In 2023, I completed a Master's in Educational Leadership. I was awarded the ACEL WA Excellence and Leadership in Tertiary Studies Award for my work, which included studies in Positive Education, Gifted and Talented Education, Mentoring, and Coaching, among other areas. This, along with a Study Tour to Finland and working alongside other great leaders, prepared me for my role as Parklands Principal.

Passionate about student wellbeing and holistic education, for me, relationships and connections are at the centre of every action, every day. I draw daily on my guiding values of Kindness, Courage and Zest, along with a firm commitment to Mindfulness and Yoga. To unwind, I head into the wilderness for long overnight hikes, which provide a deep immersion in nature. I am 600km into walking from Perth to Albany, on WA’s beautiful Bibbulmun Track. My goal is to finish all 1000km!

I am incredibly proud to be part of the Parklands team, working alongside our passionate and skilled teachers, co-educators, and administrative staff. Together, we offer an enriched curriculum and the holistic learning experience for which Parklands is renowned in Albany and beyond.
