Matthew Bascombe
Year 3
I come from a long line of teachers, so the love of learning and the desire to share it have always been part of my story. Watching my mother and aunts build strong, meaningful connections with their students inspired me to follow in their footsteps. My journey eventually led me to Parklands, where the school’s values of curiosity, respect, and courage resonate deeply with how I approach teaching. I love creating opportunities for students to explore, question, and wonder—whether it’s through hands-on experiments, creative storytelling, or diving deep into a topic they’re passionate about.
One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is witnessing those breakthrough moments—like when a student who once struggled with reading suddenly found their rhythm through a book that truly spoke to them. It’s in those moments that the Parklands values come to life, especially the belief in nurturing each child’s potential. A fun fact my students might not expect is that I can juggle, a skill leftover from a brief stint as a street performer—and yes, it occasionally makes a classroom appearance! What excites me most about my students is their natural openness and willingness to explore the world around them. Every day is a new opportunity to learn and grow together.
